About IHACHI

In a time when tea was queen, there were many tea farms in Japan and IHACHI was the one of them. For over 120 years, they have been passing down the passion and the history of tea to the next generation.

Ihachi farm has been an organic farm for 30 years. In spite of others’ oposition Seiji made a difficult decision to recreate his land as organic farm. But he knew that it is a right thing to provide safe and healthy teas for everyone. He believed himself and was right.

Takuya Shigeta, he decided to take over his father Seiji’s thought when he was 36 years old, even though many tea farms were driven out of business at times change. He loves his home Shizuoka and is so proud to introduce his teas in US.

Takuya says” it is OK not to make so much of teas. I care the quality more than quantity”. Organic farm is not simple. Weeds grow year round, bees and mosquitos are everywhere. But ducks, mantis and others are great help on their farm. They are so greatful for this balance of nature and, he and his father are working together to make safe and healty teas for us.

They created their own recipes of organic fertilizer” Bokashi “. This is a same process as making a soup stock. It gives very flavorful taste into teas.
